Classic Homemade Lasagna Recipe – Layers of Rich Flavor
There's nothing more comforting than a hearty dish of classic homemade lasagna. With layers of tender pasta, savory meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and melty cheese, this recipe brings the warmth and depth of Italian cuisine right to your table.
Ingredients
For the Meat Sauce:
- 1 lb ground beef (or half beef, half Italian sausage)
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (24 oz) jar marinara or pasta sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- Salt & pepper to taste
For the Cheese Mixture:
- 1 (15 oz) container ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan
- 2 tbsp chopped parsley or basil
Additional Ingredients:
- 9 lasagna noodles (regular or oven-ready)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook noodles if not using oven-ready.
- In a large skillet, sauté onion and garlic in a bit of oil. Add ground meat and cook until browned. Stir in marinara sauce, tomato paste, and seasonings. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan, and herbs until combined.
- In a 9x13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of sauce. Add 3 noodles, 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, 1/3 of the meat sauce, and a sprinkle of mozzarella. Repeat layers twice more.
- Top with remaining mozzarella and cover with foil.
- Bake for 25 minutes covered, then uncover and bake another 15 minutes until golden and bubbly. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing.
